Dreamies are perhaps one of the most well-known cat treats in the UK, and for good reason! Their crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-in-the-middle treats seem to be the perfect mix of textures for adult cats, with a good amount of protein-rich flavour to keep them coming back for more.

Simples was interested in the chicken flavour treats we tried as soon as I opened the pouch, and wouldn’t leave me alone once he’d had a taste. Almost as much as Simples loves the taste and texture of Dreamies, I love how easy it is to find these treats at a reasonable price.

As far as downsides are concerned, the relatively high fat content of these cat treats means you’ll need to teach your furry friend to enjoy Dreamies in moderation. There’s also little in the way of extra vitamins and minerals, so they may not be the best choice for geriatric cats.

Felix Goody Bag cat treats are a great choice for cats who love a bit of variety. Each pouch contains a mix of differently-flavoured kibble bits that help to keep treattime exciting, with the mix we tried containing equal amounts of chicken, liver and turkey-flavoured bitesize pieces.

Simples loved the small kibble size that made it easy to gobble down multiple pieces in one sitting, while I like the fact that these treats don’t have a strong smell. Another good thing about Felix’s treats is their moderate calorie content which allows for a few helpings per day.

As for the negatives, while the great flavour variety was a big plus for Simples, I can see some fussier cats being turned off the whole product if they dislike just one flavour. Also, the relatively high sugar content could be an issue for cats with weight or digestive problems.

When I offered them to my own test-cat (let’s call him Simples again), he was instantly curious, then hooked after the first bite the strong salmon scent and ultra-lean texture really drew him in. If Simples were writing these reviews, Bonkers would likely come out on top, if only for an excuse to have more catnip. As a catnip-lover, he was all over these cat treats as soon as he smelled them, but didn’t seem as interested in actually eating them once he got the zoomies.

Those that he did eat he seemed to enjoy, and he was definitely happy with the half hour of giddyness that closely followed. I thought they looked high-quality and found the ingredients list to be impressive, with a professionally-forumulated recipe containing no artificial flavours.

The price is really my main gripe, with these cat treats costing considerably more than most other products on our list. That said, I think Bonkers’ treats could be a good option for cats who need a little help getting into playtime and as a rare treat to incentivise good behaviour.

For Simples, it took a little while to be won over by these treats, but once he got a taste for them he kept coming back for more. The soft texture of the filling made it easy for Simples to gobble up a few pieces at a time, and the lack of added sugar gave me some peace of mind.

The brand’s use of natural, grain-free ingredients also supports good digestive health in cats, making Lily’s Kitchen’s treats a great choice for kitties with sensitive stomachs. The only real downsides are the price and the chance that fussy cats might dislike the taste or soft texture.

Churu Pops by Inaba are a lickable cat treat for kitties who don’t like the taste or texture of traditional dry treats. This particular product is grain-free and free from artificial flavors and preservatives, with a bit of added Vitamin E to give your cat’s immune system a little boost.

Unfortunately, Simples just isn’t a fan of lickable treats, so he turned his nose up at the soft, creamy texture of this product. He did have a few licks and seemed to like the flavour, but overall, we both found Churu Pops to be a bit too messy and difficult-to-serve for our liking.

If your cat is a fan of lickable treats, however, this product is one of the best out there. It’s made using natural ingredients, it’s got a high moisture content which is great for cats who aren’t big water-drinkers and its low calorie content makes it a good choice for dieting kitties.

Catit Creamy is another lickable treat that boasts similar benefits to the above-mentioned Churu Pops. Catit’s product is made using natural ingredients and is relatively low in calories, but I did have to knock off a few marks for its lack of added vitamins and minerals.

While Simples was, again, not a big fan of the creamy texture, he did seem more interested in the flavour of this treat. As this product is much runnier than most other lickable treats I’ve seen, I think it’s best-used as a topper for dry food to help keep water-averse cats hydrated.

Another good use for Catit Creamy I can see is as a palatable treat for older cats or kitties with dental-sensitivity issues. Simples really didn’t need to chew this treat at all, so I think it would make a good, easy-to-eat alternative to kibble for cats who don’t like crunchy foods.

Beaphar is a very interesting product as it’s designed to be both used as a cat treat and a remedy to help reduce hairballs. It contains a specially-formulated mix of malt and oil-paste that works to stop hairballs forming in the stomach as well as promote good digestive health.

The treats themselves are particularly hard and crunchy, something Simples didn’t seem to enjoy all too much. That said, if your cat does enjoy the texture of a crunchier treat, I can’t think of any other products myself and Simples have tested that quite match these malt bits.

As for the hairball-reducing part of the equation, the jury is still out. Simples didn’t really eat enough of these treats to properly test their effectiveness, and as a shorthair cat, he doesn’t suffer from hairballs that often. However, online reviewers do suggest they work pretty well!

Whiskas Temptations, like Dreamies, are one of the easiest-to-find cat treats in the UK, with most supermarkets and pet shops stocking a few flavours. Simples likes these treats as they boast a particularly strong flavour, unfortunately, the same can’t be said for me on that front!

To be fair, the smell is only strong when you’re up close with the treats or the pouch, so it’s not a big issue and one worth dealing with if your cat loves bold-flavoured, crunchy treats. As for things you can love as a parent, Whiskas Temptations are very well-priced in most shops.

A final thing to note is the ingredients list, which sadly, is a bit disappointing. While there are some added vitamins and minerals, the bulk of these treats is made up of cereals and meat derivatives, with very little in the way of actual meat and quite high quantities of fats and oils.
