Why Trust Cats.com
I’m a lifelong cat owner living in a multi-cat home, so I feel like I’m scooping pounds of cat litter every single day! I know how much easier the right litter can improve a cat parent’s life, as well as how a bad cat litter can make this dreaded chore even worse.
When testing FOURPAW tofu cat litter, I paid attention to everything from the packaging to the scooping experience. I also observed how my cats felt about the litter and whether it stuck to their paws and tracked outside of the box.
Lastly, since this litter claims to be flushable, I put a handful of it into water to see what it would do.
FOURPAW Brand Overview

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com
FOURPAW is an Amazon-based brand without a website or ‘about us’ page, so it can be difficult to learn more about them!
Here’s what we know: They sell cat and dog products including dog crates, a carrier, and a pet stroller. They also offer a small range of dog treats as well as FOURPAW tofu cat litter, which comes in four fragrances. The litter was first listed on Amazon in November of 2024.
FOURPAW Tofu Cat Litter Features
FOURPAW tofu cat litter is a clumping, flushable litter. One of the first things I did after receiving it was to test this claim, and it held up to the test. It forms perfect clumps when urinated on, but dissolved into mush when poured into a jar of water. Small particles settled to the bottom after stirring, but they were mushy rather than clumpy.
This litter also comes in four fragrances. I bought the bean fragrance, which has a pleasant, sweet scent and controls odors remarkably well. Since it’s made of tofu and nearly entirely dust-free, it’s healthier for cats than dusty clay litter.
The pellets are small and much thinner than your typical pelleted litter, which makes them more comfortable on cats’ feet. However, they’re still not quite as nice to walk on as the rounded litter particles that you’d find in clay or crystal litter. (I actually tried it myself using brand new litter in clean litter boxes!)
While the litter claims not to stick to cats’ paws, I found that it tracked almost as badly as your average clay litter. It also cannot be used in automatic litter boxes due to its pelleted shape.
The last flaw with this and any food litter is that cats may become confused and eat it. While this may not cause problems in small amounts, you should remove the litter immediately if you notice it happening. If your cat has consumed large amounts of the litter, contact your veterinarian for assistance.
When it comes to price, FOURPAW is very similar to other tofu litters. Those used to clay litter may be sticker-shocked, but if you’ve bought other brands of natural cat litter in the past, you won’t be caught off guard.
What We Like
- Forms perfect clumps when urinated on, while also dissolving in large amounts of water
- Has a sweet fragrance and traps odors well
- Small, thin pellets are more comfortable on cats’ feet than larger pellets
What We Didn’t Like
- Tracks outside of the box, comparable to most clay litters
- Like most natural cat litters, it is expensive
What Did Our Test Cats Think?

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com
The litter comes in vacuum-sealed squares with a pull tab for easy opening. I purchased two 5.5 pound bags, and one was enough to fill an average-sized litter box up to a few inches in height. If you want deeper litter, you may need to dip into a second bag.
While pouring the litter, I didn’t notice any dustiness, nor was there any dust within the bag. I was immediately pleased by the sweet scent. However, a family member promptly walked into the room and asked what stank, so it seems like it’s a scent you either love or hate. It’s not overpowering either way, but you do smell it when you pour it.
The litter is flushable as well, although due to the risks associated with flushing cat feces, I personally recommend against it. Despite its ability to break down in water, the litter also clumps very well. I didn’t notice any foul odors from the litter box, even when I bent closer than I normally would to scoop.
My cats took to it quickly, immediately coming to the box to check it out and peeing in it that same day. However, they won’t typically poop in pelleted litter, and this one was no exception.

The biggest flaw for this one was the tracking. I found quite a bit of stray litter around the box, and it also made it as far as the next room. I’d say it’s comparable to most clay litters I’ve tried in this department.
What Do Customers Think of the FOURPAW Tofu Cat Litter?
Positive Reviews
“It is great that this has virtually no dust, smells nice, and clumps well. It also doesn’t track much and doesn’t feel gross like the sand litters do when you step on it. Unfortunately it cannot be used in the litter robot because the pieces are too big to fit through the strainer. Whatever company comes up with a smaller granules, nice smelling tofu litter that can work in the litter robot will be the litter I switch to forever! It’s a good value for the money if you are using a regular litter box.” – by KB, on Amazon, September 19, 2025
“”Changed to this litter and prefer it over all the others I have tried. It is a little pricey but I find it goes longer than the regular litter (tried most brands- clumping, not clumping, crystals, etc). There is much less odor with this type. It still comes out on the paws and tracks a bit, but it is easier to clean up.” – by Tracey, on Amazon, August 30, 2025
Most reviewers like the smell of the litter and say that it has terrific odor control. Others praised its clumping abilities, its low amount of dust, and its flushability.
Negative Reviews
“3/5 stars . Didn’t really care for it unfortunately. Only tried 1 time but it didn’t hold the smell or pee & my cat bingo didn’t care for it. Sorry” – by Kayla, on Amazon, August 28, 2025
“I have an automatic littler box and this sticks to the bottom and isn’t so hard to clean. I won’t buy again.” – by ady on Amazon, July 8, 2025
Most complaints are from customers who dislike the smell of the litter or say that their cats won’t use it. Some were unhappy with how much it tracked or said that their package didn’t come vacuum-sealed as intended. Others tried it in automatic litter boxes and were upset that it didn’t scoop properly.
