Why Trust Cats.com
I tested the Furrytail self-cleaning litter box for a couple of months with my own cats. With seven of them in the house, I was able to get a range of perspectives to figure out which cats this litter box will work well for–and which it won’t!
I was also hands-on myself, testing its scooping abilities, the app’s functionality, and how easy it was to clean. I also tested the litter box with large amounts of fluid in case your cat has health issues causing excess urination or diarrhea.
Lastly, I researched the Furrytail brand and what others think of this litter box to get a complete view of the product. What works in some homes won’t work for others, and that’s okay! Our goal is to give you a fully-rounded review to make the best decision for yourself and your cats.
Furrytail Automatic Cat Litter Box Pro and Furrytail Overview

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com
Furrytail products are made by cat people, for cat people. Named after the founder’s heart cat, Furry, they aim to provide a perfect balance of style and usability for cats and humans alike. They work to support stray cats, and even have an adorable feline “focus group” to test their products before release.
Furrytail sells cat furniture, carriers, drinking bowls, and more. However, their primary product is the automatic litter box we’re reviewing today.
Their Automatic Litter Box Pro was released in 2024. Some of its main features include the ability to weigh and distinguish between cats, its large garbage capacity, and the ease in which it can be deep-cleaned.
Furrytail Automatic Litter Box Pro Features

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com
The Furrytail Pro boasts a spacious interior with a large, easy-access entryway. At around 22×22”, it’s not abnormally small for a self-cleaning litter box, but I cannot see large cats using it comfortably. The doorway is a good size for cleaning, adding litter, and allowing small cats to enter the box.
The style of the litter box is sleek and blends in with most home decor. It definitely looks nicer than your average litter box. The back is equipped with ambient lighting which can be adjusted in the app.
The trash bin is at the top of the litter box, so you don’t have to crouch all the way down to empty it. When it’s time for a deep clean, the litter box will empty itself with a press of a button, though for me it did leave some stray litter particles behind. It can then be taken apart for a full scrub, and the litter sift is removable as well.
I liked that the interior of the litter tray can be sprayed down if you’re able to take it outdoors and that it has a drainage hole to pour the water out when you’re finished cleaning.
The safety features of this litter box include a weight sensor, a scoop sensor, and a proximity sensor. The litter box is made for cats over three pounds and over four months old. It can detect cats up to 32 inches away and will stop an automatic cycle if they’re near.
The weight sensor also helps you to monitor your cat’s litter habits in the app, which is clean, functional, and easy to navigate. I preferred using it over the buttons on the machine itself, though both work well.

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

Katelynn Sobus / Cats.com
My initial thoughts on the Furrytail Pro were that it looks sleek, assembles easily, and has a large waste disposal. I also enjoyed the warm light that turns on at night, and I was pleased by how easy the box was to deep clean.
The app functions well and is easy to navigate. It shows your cat’s weights as well as when they use the litter box, allows you to set a cleaning schedule, and even reminds you when the waste bin needs a new bag. You can also start a cleaning cycle, flatten the litter, or empty the litter tray.
When it comes to scooping, the litter box does a decent job, though it leaves some small clumps behind that can contribute to odor build-up over time. It takes on large clumps well, although the trash shoot is relatively small. Sometimes a clump would split in two and fall back into the tray, and I’d have to run another cycle to take care of the second half.
The website lists this litter box as for cats between 3-22 pounds in one section, and in another says that it works for cats up to 18 pounds. However, the box seemed a little small even for my 8-10 pound cats, and the others didn’t interact except to sniff inside and walk away.
The cats were also wary of the cleaning cycle, as automatic litter boxes are new to them. They became less cautious the more they saw it moving, though, and it isn’t overly loud.
Overall, I would recommend this one for small to mid-sized cats as a cost-effective option when compared to some of the pricier models on the market.

What Do Customers Think of the Furrytail Pro?
Positive Reviews
“Have had this automatic litter box for a little under 2 months now. It works well and I have had no mechanical issues.
I live in a small apartment and this means keeping scent enclosed is very important to me. I do find the waste area relatively good at containing odor. However, you still notice it. It is not entirely sealed. Looking at other reviews I ordered a few extra things to help. One review suggested tiny stick on weights, I placed these on the back of the flap that opens for the waste to enter the bag. This makes it shut completely flush and no air is escaping the bin. I still have some bags left from the company but I find they make the inside of the bin smell and clings to the interior plastic. I started double bagging and this has seemed to do wonders. Finally, I use the arm and hammer litter deodorizer, I sprinkle for a few seconds into the bin bag and then attach it to the unit. Lastly, I ordered some of the litter robot odor trap packs. I toss one in the waste bin loose.
I use really great cat litter, the grey one which has activated charcoal in it. I have the unit set for 10m. I change the bin bag every 5-7 days. My cat definitely prefers it to a standard box, always having clean litter. He does have an additional standard box just incase. I’ve noticed he uses it mainly when he already used the auto box and it hasn’t cycled yet. I have to top up litter the middle of the week so it doesn’t get too low.
Biggest praise is weight indicator! It was almost exactly what my veterinarian got each time he was weighed for vaccines. Off by maybe 100-200g. My veterinarian agrees this is a fabulous tool to track weight and see if your cat is straining in the box.” – by MylesT on Amazon, , September 16, 2025
“I wish I had bought this years ago. Quick set-up was on the delivery box. Set up was quick. I went cold turkey with our 1 cat. The new automatic box was placed in a different location than the original box and I took the old box away completely so that there would be no alternative for her. We tried to introduce our cat to the new box, but she resisted. Since cats are curious, I figured she would explore the new item on her own, so we didn’t force it and did nothing more. The next morning I checked the bag and there were multiple clumps in it. Success! We will discard and replace the bag once a week with one cat. She has bern using it 3 days now and no smell. Compare this to scooping multiple times a day and seeing an unsightly litter box in the laundry room each morning and this automatic litter control is worth it.
Completely pleased with this litter system.” – by Steve D. Kitchens on Amazon, September 7, 2025
Most reviews like being able to track their cat’s weights and litter habits and find the box easy to use. Other praise points include the low noise level and the litter box’s aesthetic design.
Negative Reviews
“I have been using this for about two weeks now. It makes cleaning the litter box a breeze where it cycles and puts it in a collection bin on the top of the unit. Grab the bag and go. I do struggle with the odor control that it doesn’t provide. It doesn’t help with odor control like my old one of a different brand did despite using the same odor control litter. I have to take the bag out 1-2 times a day to keep things smelling fresh even with an air purifier freshener that runs constantly as well in the area. Maybe it’s because the excrement is on top of the unit without anything to seal in the smell? Big downgrade for that. I need a clean smelling home.” – by Loreal Adams on Amazon, September 20, 2025
“Absolutely terrible. It said to download the app and then it told me it was unavailable in my area. Couldn’t even use it. Seller is no longer selling it and I can’t return it. Awful. Now I’m out $300. It wont allow me to submit without a rating so it gets a 1 because there is no zero.” – by Denise Manifold on Amazon, September 7, 2025
Customer’s main complaints are jamming, odor, and issues with the litter sift breaking or detaching. Some also complain of a mess, whether from clogged litter clumps or cats kicking litter out of the box.
