As the self-cleaning litter box market expands, more affordable choices like the MeoWant are gaining traction. This automatic litter box features a rotating drum design and a low-profile entry of just 4.8 inches.

Although it’s considerably cheaper than the popular Litter-Robot, many cat parents wonder if this reflects an inferior product. In this review, we’ll dive into how the MeoWant compares to its competitors, identify the types of cats and cat parents it’s best suited for, and address some concerns.

Why Trust Cats.com

Our team has tested more than a dozen automatic litter boxes (and counting). This hands-on experience has equipped us with a solid understanding of what to look for in a quality litter box—and what red flags to avoid.

I examined the MeoWant litter box for several weeks in my home, focusing on everything from unboxing and setup to functionality. I evaluated the app’s usefulness along with other factors like cat-friendliness, ease of cleaning, and overall construction and appearance. In addition to my own observations, I also reviewed customer feedback to learn how others fared with the MeoWant.

Since self-cleaning models come with a considerable price tag, it’s a purchase you want to get right. Our goal is to cut through the confusion and help simplify your decision. In this review, we’ll frankly call out potential problems and identify the types of cats and households that could benefit most from the MeoWant Litter Box.

MeoWant Brand Overview

MeoWant was established in 2013 by a group of devoted pet lovers. The company is headquartered in the United States and currently serves pet parents across the USA, UK, and Canada.

MeoWant offers several models of automatic litter boxes in addition to the one we tested (model SC01). They’ve since developed a newer model (the SC02), which features a wider entryway and rotates backward instead of sideways.

The company also carries an automatic water fountain, a dog treat dispenser, and a vacuum grooming kit. They accept free returns within 30 days, and all products come with a one-year warranty.

MeoWant Self-Cleaning Litter Box Features

The MeoWant is a globe-style automatic litter box comprised of two main units: a rotating drum and a base on which it sits. It’s “small-ish” as automatic boxes go, with a compact footprint of 20” X 21”. (For comparison, the hefty Litter Robot 4 is 22” X 27”.) The MeoWant is said to accommodate cats between 3 and 18 pounds—again, a narrower range than many models.

One of the standout features of the MeoWant is its low-profile entry. This makes it an accessible option for senior cats, short-legged breeds, or cats with limited mobility.

Unlike many other models, the waste collection doesn’t involve a slide-out drawer at the bottom; instead, the device has a side compartment on the globe. This design choice allows the box to sit lower to the ground, but it also results in a smaller waste bin.

The MeoWant litter box has weight sensors that recognize up to six cats, letting you monitor each pet’s bathroom habits through an app. While the device can operate independently without an internet connection, the app provides helpful insights about your cat’s health by recording the time and frequency of their visits.

This self-cleaning litter box is compatible with various litter types, including bentonite, tofu, mixed, and crystal litter, as long as the granule size does not exceed 0.59 inches in diameter.

What We Like

  • It’s more affordable than most automatic litter boxes (currently, $329.99 on Amazon)
  • Low profile for easy access
  • Control panel on the unit is a nice convenience
  • Comes with a double-layered mat that traps litter as your cat exits
  • Super quiet operation (<40 dB)
  • Available with grey or yellow accents

What We Dislike

  • Slightly awkward to move because there are no handles, and you have to lift it from the base
  • Low profile means more scatter
  • Waste bin is relatively small, which might be a concern for multi-cat households

What Did Our Test Cats Think?

Straight away, I was impressed with the packaging: the MeoWant arrived with protective styrofoam layers sandwiched between the globe and the base. All the accessories were safely stored in the deodorizer compartment.

Setting up the device was straightforward, and we found it easy to sync with the app. However, some customers pointed out a few shortcomings with the app, such as the inability to edit a wrongly assigned weight.

Unfortunately, my elderly cat was not on board (even with the lower entryway). So, I used water and a small weight to activate the device’s sensors and initiate a clean cycle. The device detected my simulated “cat” and ran a clean cycle one minute after “use.”

While the low-profile design is a great feature, it comes with some trade-offs. If your cat kicks litter around or doesn’t turn around once they’re inside, you may end up with litter particles or urine on your floor. The two-unit system also means litter can get caught in the gap between the drum and the base. This appears to be a recurring issue with users.

One challenge we encountered was filling the box with litter. The design requires using a scoop rather than pouring directly from the box.

Cleaning the unit, however, was refreshingly easy—disassembling and reassembling took little time.

The included litter mat is a nice bonus; its convenient double-layer design makes it easier to dump excess litter into the trash. We also appreciated the gel deodorizer, which had a light, pleasant scent.

What Do Customers Think of the MeoWant Self-Cleaning Litter Box?

While reviews on any company site should be approached with caution, the MeoWant has garnered a rating of 4.7/5 from 323 reviews. On Amazon, it has a solid 4/5 from 1,527 global ratings.

Overall, customers are satisfied with the product’s functionality, although some concerns have been noted. Here’s a breakdown of the feedback.

Positive Reviews

Many cat owners appreciate the affordable price and relatively compact design of the MeoWant litter box. They also value its quiet operation. Most report the device operated properly and reliably.

“We got our first SC01 on Aug 2023 (2 years of use!). The price back then was close to $500 but it’s been worth every penny. Our 4 cats each have a style for using it and we find it very cute. What we like the most is the app and its features. It lets you know who went, at what time, for what duration, and their weight each time, which is wonderful to monitor their health year round. The app not only lets you add many cat profiles, but also lets you add same model meowants. This is fantastic as it lets you monitor all your cats and all the households litter boxes in a single spot. It’s also been a peace of mind when we’re out of town. We love seeing the apps notifications when we’re abroad as a sign they’re still active despite us being away. Customer service also deserves a shoutout because they’ve been there for us every time no matter the reason we reach out!” – by The Bees, on Amazon, September 26, 2025

“I have had this for about 2 1/2 months now and I am so glad we got it. We have two cats one is larger and the other is smaller and both of them use this just fine. I have to empty about every 5 days and the smell is better than with a regular box. I was nervous my cats would be afraid of it but they were immediately interested and I didn’t even have it plugged in before they used it.” – by A.Jonak, on Amazon, September 13, 2025

Negative Reviews

There are a lot of complaints about the app misreading data in multi-cat households. Many users also found the app underwhelming. Other concerns include poor odor control and the confined space inside the box. Some customers reported technical issues and failures after using the device for several months. Finally, there are several accounts of leaks.

“I have had this for about 8 months. The cats have no problem with it, and actually seem pretty fascinated by it. It does occasionally get stuck or mysteriously stops working. Sometimes plugging and unplugging reset it. Sometimes it just seems to cure itself. Right now, it has suddenly started emptying a lot of litter with the poop. I really, really wish this worked better so I could have another one” – by RogueHorse, on Amazon, September 24, 2025

“I normally don’t write reviews unless it’s a 5/5. However, I truly don’t believe this is worth the money. I bought this specific litter box to save time on the daily scooping & weekly changing of the litter altogether. It does save you time scooping, although the cleaning process is extensive. It takes awhile to clean, and ideally you’re supposed to take it apart and hose it down – which makes sense but it’s heavy and there’s a lot of parts. Idk if this is a universal issue, possibly the litter I use but it retains moisture in the disposal bin and surrounding area. I use “Worlds Best Cat Litter” for years now, and I’ve never had an issue with moisture retention in any previous litter box I’ve owned. the inside is fairly small, big enough for your adult kitty but it is a bit snug. For reference, my boy is about 11 years old and roughly 10.5 pounds. He fits, but he isn’t totally thrilled with his new bathroom. He was skeptical at first he’s since gotten used to it but doesn’t love it. I’ve been going back and forth with the thought of returning to a conventional litter box. This was a great idea in theory, I just don’t think it’s ideal for us. I’ve seen other mixed reviews. What works for some doesn’t work for all. Best of luck :)” – by Jacqueline Lerner, on Amazon, September 23, 2025
