Traditional clay cat litter is all many cat owners know – they don’t realize there is an alternative or even a reason to consider one. The fact of the matter is that many commercial cat litters contain large amounts of silica dust which can trigger respiratory issues in cats and humans.

Commercial cat litters also frequently contain chemical fragrances and other additives that can irritate your cat’s sensitive nose and skin.
The problem with many alternative litters is that they don’t stand up against clay litter in terms of performance for things like clumping action and odor control. If you’re looking for a natural alternative to clay litter that still offers similar benefits for clumping and odor control, sWheat Scoop is definitely one to consider.

Brand Overview
The sWheat Scoop brand got its start in 1994 when a local Minnesota family set out to create an alternative to clay cat litter. The result was sWheat Scoop, the first all-natural cat litter on the market.
A full 25 years later, the company calls itself “Mother Nature’s cat litter” and continues to be farmer-owned and farmer-grown. This brand is dedicated to providing pet parents with healthy, natural products to give their cats the best life possible.
As an all-natural cat litter, sWheat Scoop saves pet parents from worrying about the harmful effects of clay and silica dust.
By combining their knowledge of sustainable farming practices and natural product development, the sWheat Scoop company continues to develop innovative products that would make Mother Nature herself proud.
sWheat Scoop cat litter uses natural wheat enzymes and starches to enhance clumping and lock away odors. In fact, all of sWheat Scoop’s ingredients are biodegradable and come from renewable resources so everything they take from the earth can go right back into it.
What Kinds Of Litter Does The Brand Offer?
The sWheat Scoop brand currently offers three different cat litter formulas. Each recipe uses the natural goodness of wheat to eliminate unpleasant litter box odors. Thanks to the use of Noble Ion Technology, the brand’s proprietary odor-eliminating technology, all three formulas are new and improved, designed to provide long-lasting odor control.
Every ingredient is biodegradable, flushable, and made from renewable resources so everything that is taken from the earth can go right back into the ground.
The three formulas sWheat Scoop has to offer are fast-clumping, multi-cat, and premium+. Every formula is made from all-natural wheat without any chemical dyes, perfumes, or other harmful ingredients. Two of the three are multi-cat friendly, and all of them offer strong clumping action to lock away odors and make cleaning the litter box quick and easy.
The three formulas we’re reviewing here are the only three formulas sWheat Scoop has to offer.

Positive Reviews
“I have been looking for and testing natural, non toxic, cat litter. This product has absolutely no odor which I really like. The product list is great – all natural with no chemicals. The poop is easy to clean out. Its not clumping as it doesn’t have the clumping chemical. The urine clumps naturally a bit but mostly falls apart with cleaning and can stay stuck to the bottom of the cat box. It does track outside the box. I sweep around the box regularly. I only use this product at night when the cats are inside. During the day it is covered and they go outside, so I’m not sure how it would hold up under heavy multiple cat use, but for light use and a willingness to sweep up a bit I am very happy with the trade off of no odor and no toxins.” – by Celeste, reviewing sWheat Scoop Multi-Cat Natural Wheat Cat Litter, September 11, 2025
“Our cats love this litter option. It covers and clumps well. It’s easy to clean and light weight. I hate the perfumey smell of clay litters. This does not have that! Also we have a declawed cat (no I didn’t do it she came that way), and this is a litter she can use without hurting her paws. If you have a declawed cat with bathroom issues, this can fix the problem. Please don’t discontinue my litter!” – by Jeanine, reviewing sWheat Scoop Natural Fast-Clumping Wheat Cat Litter, September 1, 2025
Negative Reviews
“I bought this since it was cheaper than Worlds Best Cat Litter and that it also clumps however this litter has been nothing short of a nightmare. The litter does not clump well, and when I try to scoop my cats litter boxes, its like trying to scoop wet litter that also has tar mixed in. I poured my cats litter not even 3 weeks ago and I am already dumping it out & putting worlds best cat litter back in once I’ve gotten both boxes scrubbed. If you are looking for a better clumping, non scented and flushable cat litter- check out Worlds Best Cat litter.” – by Sarah, reviewing sWheat Scoop Multi-Cat Natural Wheat Cat Litter, September 3, 2025
“There is still dust to this, the clumps do not stay together causing a mess, also leaves a really strong sickly sweet odor that I could not endure. I would not get this again personally. My cat had no problem using it, but it made cleaning the litter unbearable.” – by Jade, reviewing sWheat Scoop Natural Fast-Clumping Wheat Cat Litter, August 22, 2025
How Much Does sWheat Scoop Cat Litter Cost?
Natural cat litters tend to cost more than traditional clay litter, but that doesn’t mean clay litters can’t be expensive.
In fact, sWheat Scoop is priced similar to some of the mid-range clay litters we’ve reviewed. All three formulas are priced between $0.75 and $1.00 per pound when you purchase the largest size. You can save even more by buying online with an auto-ship discount.
Overall, Is sWheat Scoop Cat Litter a Good Choice?
We can’t say that sWheat Scoop performs as well as some of the natural cat litters we’ve tried, but it does offer some unique benefits that make it worth trying. The fact that it is flushable and biodegradable is a major bonus, and it is also very lightweight and, generally speaking, very affordable. It could be better for odor control, but with frequent scooping, it does just fine.
One thing to be mindful of with this brand is that while some of the recipes are marketed for multiple cat homes, the odor-fighting power may be reduced if you have more than one cat using the litter box. At the very least, you’ll need to scoop the box more frequently to keep the litter fresh. Make sure to provide one litter box per cat with at least one extra.
All three of sWheat Scoop’s formulas are biodegradable and flushable. This makes your job of cleaning the litter box much easier – you should also be able to use a standard litter scoop with this litter. Many cat owners like to keep their litter box in the bathroom so they can quickly and easily scoop directly from the box into the toilet for disposal.
Where Is sWheat Scoop Cat Litter Sold?
sWheat Scoop Cat Litter is sold online and in pet stores. You can find it for sale from online retailers like Chewy and Amazon as well as big box stores like Walmart and Target as well as local and national pet stores such as PetSmart and Petco.

We certainly wouldn’t use anything else. Gone for a month on holiday, with #1 son watching the cat, and ZERO cat smell when you walk into the house. Amazing stuff.
