In this article, I’ll share my honest reviews of 10 cat hammocks that I purchased and tested myself with the help of my seven senior cats.

Each product in this round-up was purchased and tested by me and my seven cats. With them all being seniors, I take their comfort very seriously. I’m also always looking for ways to enrich their lives, and hammocks can provide a nice change of pace from traditional cat beds. They provide elevation and unlock new sleeping and perching locations.
While choosing products for this list, I read customer reviews, spoke to other cat parents, and considered what my own cats would enjoy. The Zoratoo elevated cat hammock comes with a sturdy metal frame and a fluffy, padded gray cushion. You can also choose the enclosed version, which is white and gray with two levels. The bed can seat most cats, and smaller cats have some space to stretch out. My bigger cats really favored this one!
It sits 8 inches off the ground, allowing for a bit of elevation. Its neutral, stylish design blends in seamlessly with most home decor.
Multiple Amazon reviewers have issues with the zippers and with the bed not fitting the frame, but I haven’t noticed a problem myself. I had a bit of trouble getting the bed onto the frame the first time since the fit is snug, but it’s easy to zip and unzip and stays in place just fine.
What We Liked:

Its neutral colors look good in most spaces. It attaches to the window with two large suction sups at the top and two smaller ones at the bottom, and it comes fully assembled, so all you have to do is secure the cushion to the seat.
This one can hold up to 40 pounds, and the extra-large size holds up to 80 pounds. Of course, one of the downsides of the perch is that white cushions stain easily. The cushion is also handwash only. That said, with indoor cats, mine hasn’t gotten dirty yet!

I like that the bed is easy to put together and comes in several fun patterns. If you’re looking for something a bit bigger or sturdier, they also have medium and large sizes with metal frames–but unfortunately, these only come in black.
The bed is sturdy enough to hold my 20-pound cats. It’s held together mostly by the cover, so it’s easy to take apart for cleaning. The legs do wobble a bit when you pick up the bed, but they stay put while on the floor, so I didn’t have any issues personally.
What We Liked:

This bed is large and can hold up to 40 pounds per level. It’s made of rubberwood with a cute cat design on each end and two fluffy white hammocks for your cats to cuddle up in. It’s sturdy, easy to assemble and move around, and the covers are machine washable.
The product does feature one of my pet peeves, which is when wood is cut into two pieces when it could’ve been one big, sturdier piece. This can be seen on each end of the bed, where the cats’ legs are separated from their heads, adding an unnecessary step to the assembly process. Since these are two separate pieces, the wood grain doesn’t line up either, making it look even more noticeable.
What We Liked:

Its metal frame is sturdy and can hold cats up to 25 pounds. My biggest cat is 20 pounds, and while the bed didn’t look like it’d fit him, he spent multiple evenings curled up inside. My smaller cats also enjoyed the hammock.
While the cover isn’t easy to remove, it can be spot cleaned. The bed can also fold down and even comes with a storage bag if you’d like to put it away for the winter. Alternatively, a blanket or cushion could make it warm and cozy.

It features two beds and hanging straps made of polyester and velveteen, plus a stainless steel hook for hanging. No other hardware is included, so you will have to purchase your own in order to hang up the bed. Pet Life recommends installation into concrete or a stud to ensure your cat’s safety.

Unfortunately, my cats didn’t spend much time on this hammock and preferred the others on this list. I’ve learned through the testing process for this article that they don’t like beds that swing back and forth. Another issue is that the cushions themselves move around a lot and don’t feel sturdy beneath a cat’s feet, leading to some discomfort and fear. I think that a solid base at the bottom would help more cats feel comfortable resting on this one.
That said, I also think that cats who like to climb and are a bit more adventurous may love cuddling up in this hammock! I can especially see it being enjoyed by kittens.
What We Liked:

Assembling the bed was easy, and I loved how it looked in my window. The cats loved it too, and my eldest has chosen it as one of his favorite sleeping spots!

Still, this one was a fan favorite in my house! My cats love how plush and cozy the bed is, and I have to stop them from bullying each other off of it.
Some reviewers report the legs breaking within the same day of buying, but after over two months of regular use, this isn’t something I’ve experienced.
What We Liked:

My cats enjoy the soft fabric of the hammock for sleeping, but the star of the show has been the basket. My cat Pepper likes to play inside of it, enjoying the sound that the basket makes when a hand or toy runs along the bottom. She also likes to gnaw on the corners, which is something to watch for if your cat likes to eat nonfood items!
This tree was easy to assemble once I figured it out, though a lack of premade holes in the hammock fabric made it take longer than necessary. I finally found the holes in the metal beneath and was able to place it correctly, but only after cutting holes into the fabric myself.
What We Liked:

While I was excited about this hammock at first, it proved to be more pretty than functional–at least in my home. Since the hammock is suspended from a hook, it swings freely back and forth, which scared my cats. I think a more adventurous cat or kitten may take to it better, but my cats are seniors and didn’t want much to do with it.
My cat also seemed confused about how to get out of the hammock once he was inside, and I had to lift him out before he tried to exit through the holes in the rope. Had he done so, he might have been hurt.
If you purchase this one, I suggest placing it near other furniture of a similar height so that your cat doesn’t have to jump in and out from the ground. A blanket or large cushion that entirely covers the inside of the ropes would also be a big improvement, as it would reduce the risk of your cat getting tangled.

How to Choose the Best Cat Hammock
Here are a few things to consider before buying a hammock for your cat:
Hammock Type
There are various types of cat hammocks, including:
- Window perches
- Raised beds
- Hanging hammocks
Window perches are excellent for small spaces, since they attach to the glass or window sill. Raised beds take up floor space and typically require a flat surface to rest on.
Hanging hammocks are the least convenient since they aren’t freestanding, so you need a sturdy space to hang them from, such as a stud in your wall or ceiling.
Cat Size
Also consider your cat’s size and how they typically sleep. Large cats who stretch out in their sleep will need bigger hammocks than smaller cats or those who like to curl up.
Washability
Washability is important to make sure the hammock you buy lasts long term. It’s typically recommended to wash your pet’s bedding around once a month, or more often if it’s visibly messy. Even if you have a clean cat, dander, fur, and litter particles may accumulate over time.
Some hammocks can only be spot cleaned, while others have machine washable bedding.
Unfortunately, many hammocks do require you to unscrew at least one side to remove the bedding. If there are special tools, such as hex keys, required for this, I recommend storing them where they’ll be easy to locate when needed.
Durability
Lastly, look for a good balance between affordability and durability. You want materials that will hold up to some wear and tear, can handle your cat’s weight longterm, and are easy to wash when needed.
